From the Desk
of the Director
In
recent years, it has been noticed that the distance system of
education has been growing at an exponential rate in the entire
world and subsquently it has been also adopted by a major segment of
universities in the country. Infact in view of existing as
well as revolutionary ICT changing scenario, there remains no
alternative, but to adopt this very much flexible approach of
imparting education.
Consequence to the adoption of Information Communication
Technology in the teaching process, a set of changes have appear
which lead the country in the way and gradually all universities
have started adopting these for their teaching departments.
Thus the mode of learning through distance education has not only
challenged the traditional form of higher education but has proved
to be a book in overcoming the genesic problem of scavicity and
exting practically in all universities.
The Institute of Distance Education of Dr. Hari Singh Gour
University, Sagar started functioning in 1998 as a self financing
department and is playing an important role in the extension of
distance education in the country.
The most distinguished feature of this institute is that the
institute runs such courses which are non conventional, professional
and job oriented e.g. courses of Library Science, Journalism,
Management, which have earned wide popularity all over the country,
on the other hand unique courses of yoga and meditation,
psychological counselling, criminology and police administration
have been appreciated at various levels. The courses fees of this
institute are moderate and within the reach of common person.
The duration of the courses are moderate, compact and have been
scheduled for very short period. During XIth plan it is
proposed to start some new courses, which will be of use in
extending open system of learning at the national level.
I wish to keep on record my deep sense of appreciation to Asstt.
Director and the entire staff of Institute of Distance Education who
have been assisting me with their head and some together have beyond
working hour.
